What are the steps to becoming an Accredited SafePlus Assessor?

There are 8 basic steps

Step 1 Application Form

You need to contact us at [email protected] and ask for the link to be sent to you via email. This is an online form which needs to be completed in full. Please ensure you read the Guide and the Sample form before you start as this form cannot be saved. 

It is important that you read all our policies on our website www.tracecare.co.nz and the Assessor Competencies specified by WorkSafe NZ.  Please note: You must have graded professional membership (NZISM, IOSH, NZSC, SIA) or Level 6 or higher NZQA approved qualification recognised by New Zealand Health and Safety Professional Bodies.

 Step 2 Certified copies of documents

You are required to send us documents which prove your identity, qualifications, experience and professional memberships. You need to send in all the required documentation so that we can begin to process your application. We need certified copies of original documents. (We do not want your originals).

A certified copy is a photocopy that has been stamped or endorsed by a person who confirms that the copy is a true copy of the original document. People who can certify include: Solicitor, Justice of the Peace, Notary Public, Deputy Registrar at a court. 

Step 3 Payment 

 Your application will not be processed until SAB have received full payment of the fees. There are two options – internet or credit card.

If paying by internet Application Fees of $1,720 plus GST = Total $1,978.00.  Please include initials and surname as the reference and SAB as the code. (Please note that not providing the reference a*nd code may delay your application being processed)

Credit Card  $1978 incl GST + a 3% surcharge for Credit Card purchases = Total $2037.34. We will send you a PayPal invoice and link so you can pay over their secure system. Please do not send your credit card details directly to us.

Step 4 Desk top review

We will assess your application against the 8 Assessor Competencies specified by WorkSafe NZ. We will also contact your referees.

 Step 5 Competency interview

 If your application is satisfactory, you will have a face to face interview. The interview will be based on the 8 Assessor Competencies and take place in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

 Step 6 Training

 If your interview is satisfactory, you will be booked on to a 3 day training course to learn about how to use the SafePlus Assessment Tool. The cost of this training is $1720.00 plus GST = Total $1,978.00

Step 7 Accreditation 

If you successfully complete the training, the SafePlus Accreditation Board will consider all of the elements of your application and if satisfied grant you SafePlus accreditation. You will be notified by this in writing and sent a certificate and your name will be entered onto the public register.

 Step 8 Reaccreditation

 Every three years you will have to apply for reaccreditation. This will cost $800.00 plus GST. You will need to provide evidence of Continuing Professional Development (related to health and safety) as well as information about any new qualifications gained and the type and nature of the work you have been doing.

Protecting your privacy
As part of your application to become an accredited assessor, Tracecare will obtain personal information from you, including information about your name, qualifications, experience, and association membership.
They collect your personal information so that your application for accreditation can be assessed and decided.
Your personal information will be provided to and held securely by Tracecare Limited, who are the accreditation body appointed to make accreditation decisions.
Providing this information is optional. If you choose not to provide the personal information requested, Tracecare will be unable to assess and process your application for accreditation.
You have the right to ask for a copy of any personal information held about you, and to ask for it to be corrected if you think it is wrong.
